Brand History

It has been said that Plzen was created so beer could be made there. When King Wenceslas II founded the city in 1295, he gave all households the right to produce beer.
Unsatisfied with the quality, in 1838 a few breweries joined and decided to empty out 36 barrels of undrinkable beer in front of the city hall. This “protest“ prompted several beer producing households to join together and create the Plzen City Brewery.
A network of ice tunnels was dug under the main building for another new technique called “lagering“ initiating the lager beer technique. Four years later, they launched a gold beer with a specific colour and recognizable flavour that differed from the known dark and cloudy beers from that time.
